New York based quintet The Blues Project never quite achieved the kind of commercial success that was undoubtedly their due, but they have nonetheless gained a greater lustre since they first convened in 1965. Featuring Al Kooper, who played the incisive organ part on ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, and guitarist Steve Katz, who formed Blood, Sweat & Tears with Kooper in 1967 (Katz would also produce the Lou Reed albums ‘Rock & Roll Animal’ and ‘Sally Can’t Dance’), they are further notable as they exemplify the Jewish American influence on the Blues in the 1960s, alongside the likes of Mike Bloomfield and Barry Goldberg. Although their career was shortlived, the original line-up having disbanded in 1967, The Blues Project are now regarded as a genre-busting, pioneering band from one of the most creative periods of North American popular music. This concert was recorded at the culmination of a brief reunion in the early 70s
